Buxton Photo Challenge is an annual summer event hosted by High Peak Photography Club. It typically takes place in July as part of Buxton Fringe Festival and is open to everyone. The aim is to take 6 photos, on 6 given themes, in 6 hours and they must be in order! Participants can use a stand-alone camera, or their phone camera. Prizes are awarded to the images that impress the judges the most for each theme. By following our dedicated ‘Buxton Photo Challenge’ Facebook page, you can find out about future events and view the photos from previous challenges.
The 2025 Buxton Photo Challenge took place on a sunny Saturday in July, as part of the Buxton Fringe Festival. A lively atmosphere and food market provided our photographers with plenty of inspiration. We had 57 participants, a record number that included regulars, newcomers, youngsters and first-time visitors to Buxton. Members of the SheClicks community for female photographers also paid us a return visit. Entrants told us how much they had really enjoyed the event, even the more challenging themes! A big thank you to everyone that showed up and took part, we hope to see you all again next year.
The 4 judges had a tough time selecting their 5 favourite images for each theme. They considered the inventiveness, creative interpretation of the theme, as well as the overall quality and composition of each photo. After compiling the judges votes the following images came out on top.
Some of the other great images can be found on the Buxton Photo Challenge Facebook page.
